Marking for QoS improvement

چکیده
Differentiated services architecture is receiving wide attention as a framework for providing different levels of service in the Internet. Current architecture allows customers to mark their packets and the network provider to check them for conformance to service contracts. This paper looks at the problem of achieving speci®c QoS goals of individual ̄ows by ̄exibly managing resources available to an aggregated source. The paper shows that an aggregated source can maintain state of individual ̄ows at the edge of the network and utilize this state effectively in adaptively marking packets of individual ̄ows to meet their QoS goals. The paper also proposes a simple scheme for improving the service provided to a receiving-intensive application by transferring resources to the edge of the network on the sender's side. The paper studies the impact of these sender's side marking strategy and the receiver's willingness to pay for resources in achieving QoS goals of individual ̄ows. q 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)
Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF, meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....
متن کاملIntegrating Web server and network QoS to provide end-to-end service differentiation
In this paper, we propose an Integrated Quality of Service (QoS) Manager (IQM) that determines and enforces the QoS given to HTTP requests that a web server receives. In order to determine the required QoS, both the identity of the client as well as the URL being accessed are used. To provide end-to-end service guarantees, it is not sufficient to provide QoS in the network layer or in the web s...
متن کاملObservations on using marks for pricing in multiclasspacket networks to provide multidimensional
| We investigate through simple simulations some basic issues surrounding the use of marks for pricing in multiclass packet networks with multi-dimensional quality of service(QoS) prooles. We nd that the use of only one class of packets is not suf-cient to provide satisfactory multidimensional QoS performance in some simple situations. We also nd that by using appropriate control mechanisms (e....
متن کاملA new method for VoIP Quality of Service control using combined adaptive sender rate and priority marking
Quality of Service (QoS) control is an important issue in Voice over IP (VoIP) applications because of the need to meet technical and commercial requirements. The main objective of this paper is to propose a new QoS control scheme that combines the strengths of adaptive rate and speech priority marking QoS control techniques to provide a superior QoS control performance, in terms of perceived s...
متن کاملEncapsulation and Marking of MPEG-4 Video Over IP Differentiated Services
Traditional IP network offer users best-effort service. In this model, all user packets compete equally for network resources. Much attention is being given to developing IP QoS (Quality of Service), which allows network operators to offer differing levels of treatment to user packers. In this article, we investigate QoS interaction provisioning between MPEG-4 video applications and IP DifJerv ...
